Dear Wonderful PASJE Families,
Today we:
Discussed the value "Pikuach Nefesh" or "Saving One Life." We compared 2 Biblical heroes, Noah and Abraham, and who had done a better job of protecting life. G-d told Noah that he was going to destroy all of mankind because it was wicked, and instructed him to build an ark to save the animals and his own family. Noah obeyed without discussion. In contrast, G-d told Abraham that he was going to destroy all the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah because they were wicked. Abraham put himself in personal danger by arguing with G-d: "If we can find 50 righteous people, will you spare these cities? How about 40 righteous people? How about 30 righteous people, etc." We discussed that Judaism teaches us to do whatever we can, break rules or put ourselves in danger, if it will save even 1 life. On a side note, we read Noah's story from a book called The Brick Bible by Brendan Powell Smith which illustrates the Bible stories with scenes created from Lego bricks. The kids loved it. Practiced the song we will sing at the Passover seder, Adir Hu.
Completed a worksheet of Yiddish words that have come into English, such as "mensch," "kibitz," "schmutz" and others. The children will have a day of Yiddish culture on April 6 - more details to come from Cathy and Nancy!
Made colorful stones depicting the Passover 10 Plagues to use during the seder. We'll see everyone in 2 weeks on April 6!
