Dear PASJE Parents,

Using their notes and our text, my students wrote what they knew about pikuah nefesh (the requirement to save a human soul) and then shared their knowledge with the group. We then moved on to our Talmudic lesson and furthered our understanding of when pikuah nefesh must be tempered by vadai sakanah (the requirement to save ourselves from certain danger.)

We continued our study of Jewish history by looking at 1800’s-1900’s in Europe. We discussed the Pale of Settlement, pogroms and the rise of Zionism.

As students requested, I then discussed the history of the Bar and Bat Mitzah.
